Plane Sailing Festival 2022
What an incredible time we had working on Plane Sailing Festival this January!
This was a historic first festival in Auckland CBD’s iconic Victoria Park, with the tallest building of the southern hemisphere, Sky Tower, overlooking the site. This event saw the majority of international acts from the Netsky & Friends run coming together again, but this time they were joined by kiwi legends Shapeshifter and other local acts spread across two stages as well as a silent disco. The festival was named ‘Plane Sailing’ in homage to the London Plane trees lining the border of the park and the well-known nickname for Auckland’s ‘City of Sails’ due to its close proximity to the harbour.

By the time all artists and crew arrived in Auckland there was a true family vibe, and everyone knew the drill on how to put on a great show. Hiccups like cancelled online shopping and pizza orders didn’t put a dent in anyone’s smile, especially considering the steady flow of on-demand cocktails being whipped up backstage. Shapeshifter, Hybrid Minds, Friction, Holy Goof, Koven, Katayanagi Twins, Chiccoreli & Tali and more brought another epic spread of live music, with eager crowds spilling in for an unreal day & night of good ol’ festival fun.
The sacred cricket grounds needed to be treated with utmost care during the site-build phase – the in-ground sprinklers felt like landmines ready to go off if a wrong turn was taken! A mammoth effort was put in by the amazing event & site managers to ensure the first Vic Park festival roll-out was a success, laying the groundwork for many more to come.
